Mike Whittamore – Chairman

Mike was appointed to the Board of Directors in October 2001 and was elected to the position of Vice-President on March 20th, 2008 following the Annual Meeting. He is the President of Whittamore Farms Inc. near Markham. Whittamore Farms Inc. grows fresh fruit and vegetables for both the “pick your own” and “farm market” operations. Over 100,000 people visit their farm on an annual basis.

Mike is a past President of the Ontario Berry Growers Association and in 1994 was named the Outstanding Young Farmer for Ontario. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program.

Steve Carruthers – Vice-Chairman

Steve joined the Board of Directors in October, 2002. He and his wife Karen live in Enniskillen with their 6 children and together they own and operate Amara Farms Inc. – a cash crop operation farming land in the Bowmanville-Enniskillen area.

Steve also operates Amara Agronomics, an independent consulting company which provides crop management and farm business advice to its clients.

Both Karen and Steve are actively involved in their church and their community.

Rick Carter – 2nd Vice-Chairman

Rick proudly joined our Board of Directors in August, 2004. Rick and his spouse Sharon live in Lindsay, with their children. Rick is owner and operator of Blewett Printing, which is located in Lindsay.

Rick is active within the community and serves as a Board Trustee with the Cambridge Street United Church.

Wayne Strachan

Wayne has been on the Board of Directors of Farmers’ Mutual since October 1998 and following the Annual Meeting on March 20th, 2008 was elected as Company President.

Wayne lives in Ramara Township, just outside Brechin, where he owns and operates a 200 acre beef feedlot. He’s also a member of the Brechin Lions Club.

Gord James

Gord James was appointed to the Board of Farmers’ Mutual in October 2009. Gord had a long career with The Quaker Oats Co. of Canada Ltd., where he held senior positions in Marketing, Finance and as head of the company.

Gord has been active on boards of both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations such as Recapture Metals Ltd., Peterborough Regional Health Centre and PRHC Foundation. He is currently volunteering with the YWCA Crossroads Safehaven Campaign and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Gord and spouse Olivia live in Peterborough.

Gord Lodwick

Gord proudly joined the Board of Directors in October 2009. Gord and spouse Darlene live in Beaverton with their two children.

Gord is a past owner and Vice-President of a medium sized temperature controlled transportation company “Lodwick Transport”. After the sale of the company, Gord remained on in a managerial capacity.

Gord is also a past founder and owner of a franchise sandwich shop and a current owner of two land and building management companies.

Terry Malcolm

Terry joined Farmers’ Mutual in February 1985. He served as Company President from 1993 to 1995 and from 2003 to 2004.

From 1994 to March 2004 he served on the Board of Directors of the Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan Inc. and served as Board Chairman from 2001 to 2002.

Fred McIntyre

Fred joined our Board of Directors in April 1991 and served as President from 1999 to 2001. Fred also served on the Board of Directors of Farm Mutual Financial Services Inc. in Cambridge from 1996 to 2003 and served as Board Chairman from 2001 to 2002.

Retired from the automobile recycling industry, Fred lives in the City of Peterborough. He’s a member of Keene United Church, where he serves on the Board of Stewards.

Murray Moore

Murray joined our Board of Directors in October 1997. He served as Company President from 2004 to 2006.

Murray was with the Lindsay Police Service for 30 years, rising through the ranks to become Inspector, before taking early retirement in 1998. He now operates a beef farm near Fenelon Falls with his brother.

Murray is actively involved with the Fenelon Township Fall Fair.

Tim Shauf – President and Chief Executive Officer

Tim has his B.A. in Business Administration and has been involved in the mutual insurance industry since 1992.

He served as the Manager of another farm mutual company in Ontario from 1994 to August, 1999 and on the Board of Directors of the Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan from March, 1996 until June, 1999. In March, 2002 Tim was elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association.

Tim and his family live in Lindsay.
